In 1924 trainer Alfred Day created Fontwell Park racecourse with an oval hurdles track, and a rare figure-of-eight circuit for the National Hunt course. It is now the only remaining course in the UK laid out this way. 4a5pg

Fontwell officially opened on 21 May 1924. In 1949 it was attended by Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth), when her horse, Monaveen, won the Chichester Handicap Chase – marking her first ever win as an owner (it was the first and only horse she owned tly with the Queen Monther).

- Road: The course is at the junction of the A27 and A29 between Chichester and Arundel. At the roundabout take the exit signposted A29 Bognor Regis. The entrance to the car park is 400yds from the roundabout on your right hand side.
- Rail: Barnham Station is the nearest to the racecourse, and Arundel Station is three miles from the course. A shuttle bus operates on racedays between Barnham Station and the racecourse.
