Leicester course is best known for the Leicestershire Stakes, a Flat race run in late April which was renamed as the King Richard III Stakes in 2013, when the king’s skeleton was discovered in Leicester. Racing had taken place in Leicester since 1773 but only moved to its present Oadby location in 1883.
