The first race meetings were held on the sands at nearby Leith, but in 1816 they moved to Musselburgh, previously called Edinburgh Racecourse. 4d2l6n
Saved from Closure 331561
Now the second biggest racecourse in Scotland, Musselburgh was only saved from closure in 1991 by East Lothian Council who managed to turn its fortunes around and invest in new facilities.

In 2012 an all-weather strip was added to the track to stop the bends getting chopped up.
