Southwell Racecourse is best known for its all-weather track, which is the only one of the six in the UK laid with Fibresand – a surface similar to American dirt tracks. It also has a turf course for National Hunt racing that runs inside the all-weather. 123h2a

Just over 10 years later the track was judged unsafe and the racecourse relocated to Rolleston, for racing to resume in 1989. A new grandstand was built in 1965, and a hurdles track three years later also featured a new watering system. In 1989, Southwell became the first course in Britain to hold a Jumps race on an artificial track but they were discontinued for safety reasons.
